Here are five main things that we would like to see in Europa Universalis 5, whenever Paradox get around to announcing it. who has played the 1508 start date knows, the war is impossible to
That's one of the Ottomans' biggest advantages. They fight three different religions from day one and spread their aggressive expansion around. 3) Culture--same as religion. 4) Being part of the HRE. Provinces in the HRE generate a lot of AE when conquered. But there are ways to deal with all of that.

If all you knew of this game was how it is today with all the DLC, that's how you'd learn it. The stepping up of complexity would be irrelevant to you, you'd judge it as a single piece. As is, I don't think this game is too complicated for a lot of people, no. Last edited by Pwnyboy-Curtis ; Oct 12, 2016 @ 8:47am. #14.
My understanding of it has been, that 1821 is really the end of the time period where EU4 mechanics make sense. As in, the world is about to make such a great shift toward industrialism that the way nations interact/change in EU4 is so outdated as to be irrelevant in 1821+. It's a good bit after the big fireworks of Europe, the Napoleonic wars.
8 Don't Get Coalitioned. A warning about aggressive expansion and coalitions in when starting a war in Europa Universalis 4. It is far too easy to get ahead of yourself in this game when you start racking up the victories and expanding your country outwards. There is, however, a game feature that aims to curb this: Aggressive Expansion.

Neither of these is inevitable for a grand strategy game. For a contrast I'll be coming to a lot, Crusader Kings 2 has neither of these problems. It can be started at a variety of dates, with 4 official start dates (769, 867, 936, 1066), and a lot of later start dates that are all quite good, and full of different interesting characters.
